Kemptthal, April 4, 2022 - The Swiss foodtech start-up Planted, known for alternative proteins, in particular its planted.chicken, is expanding its product range with another creation: planted.chicken Curry. The new curry marinade was developed exclusively by Hiltl. planted.chicken Curry will be available in Coop stores throughout Switzerland from April 4, 2022. planted.chicken causes 74% less CO2e emissions and uses 46% less fresh water in production than the animal equivalent.

Planted produces meat from alternative proteins, focusing on the perfect bite. Inspired by Natur, the company is pioneering a novel biostructuring approach that combines protein structuring and biotechnology. The Planted products, each consisting of different protein sources (peas, oats, sunflower), currently include: planted.chicken, planted.pulled, planted.kebab and planted.schnitzel. The planted.chicken, Planted's first product on the Swiss market, will now also be available with a curry marinade from April. Like every planted.chicken, the planted.chicken curry is made exclusively from natural ingredients: Pea protein, pea fibers, rapeseed oil, water and a healthy dose of vitamin B12. The marinade has a fruity note, contains Indian curry spices and is slightly spicy.

Cooperation with Hiltl

The delicious curry marinade was developed exclusively for Planted by Hiltl, the world's oldest vegetarian restaurant according to Guinness World Records. "We can't imagine our menu without Planted - and neither can our guests. We had a lot of fun developing a curry marinade. It has a bit of everything: just the right amount of salt and a slight hint of sweetness. The planted.chicken curry can be fried, grilled on a skewer, rolled up in wraps or used as a topping for a bowl or salad. There's something for everyone!" enthuses Adrian Reimann, Head of Product and Recipe Development at Hiltl.  

From April 2022, Hiltl will include the planted.chicken curry in its restaurants on the popular Hiltl Buffet, in the à la carte restaurant of Haus Hiltl and in the Hiltl Vegimetzg range. Planted and Hiltl have a long-standing relationship, and the planted.bistro by Hiltl at the company's headquarters in Kemptthal is also operated by Hiltl.

Sustainability through and through

Planted is committed to using only 100% natural ingredients and no additives in its products. This makes them a truly healthy and better alternative for everyone. In addition, an in-depth analysis was recently carried out: planted.chicken produces 74% less CO2e emissions and uses 46% less fresh water in production than the animal equivalent. To calculate the CO2e footprint, the entire life cycle of the Planted products and their animal counterparts was evaluated. From growing and harvesting the ingredients to processing and transportation, energy consumption in our production facility, storage and transportation to the stores and disposal of the packaging - everything was taken into account.

Availability  

Planted is available in Switzerland, Germany, Austria, France, Italy and, most recently, in the UK in restaurants and retail outlets as well as in our own Europe-wide online store. The new product planted.chicken Curry will be available from April 2022 in Coop stores throughout Switzerland, in the Planted online store and in Hiltl Vegimetzg.
